"Good night and good luck" 下了一個漂亮的注解

這片由好萊塢一線巨星George Clooney導的長片
非常的不抓住熊熊的眼光
主因當然是因為它是一部黑白長片 
(熊熊的黑白長片一直只到卓別林等級)
再加上看這種美國歷史片對英文不好的熊是需要專注力的

所以雖然這片05年的紐約影展開幕片一直到今天才鬼打牆的出現在熊家

這一片的背景其實很簡單
50年代的美國 由於對共產主義的恐懼
共和黨籍的參議員 Joseph McCarthy 大肆宣揚共產主義滲入美國
這個 McCarthyism（麥卡錫主義）照成人人自危的的緊張氣氛
只要被稱為顛覆份子便會遭受迫害
知名的卓伯林 Charlie Chaplin 便是一例 (他1957年在歐洲拍攝的 紐約王 便是在說這件事)
卓伯林在1952年因為政治迫害被迫離開美國

McCarthy以愛國愛國為名 透過這類非理性的手段追求自身的權力
在這個混亂的時間點
CBS的談話節目主持人Edward R. Murrow 和 節目製作人Fred Friendly
不畏政府 軍方 與電視台的壓力
堅持揭露 McCarthy 的野心

Murrow在裡面有多場談話真是談話節目經典的簡潔有力風格

至於不喜歡黑白 嚴肅片的話
這片也貼心的準備了Dianne Reeves 連續3屆葛萊美爵士樂獎得主 的音樂作為過場音樂
使得這部電影成了 放著聽配樂都享受的娛樂

政治裡
政客豎立敵人
激起群眾的情緒
人民便搖旗吶喊
在這樣的氣氛裡
新聞能有怎樣的作用

新聞是人民知的權利
但是我們需要知道的是什麼
握著轉台器的我們想過嗎

呈現新聞故事 是新聞人的職責
但是在台灣新聞主播連新聞稿都唸不好
一大早晨間新聞化個嚇死人的大濃妝
(沒辦法 這邊吃晚餐看網路新聞就薑薑好是台灣的晨間新聞啦 嚇死熊喔~~~)
媒體成了政治的娛樂工具
新聞人的道德和自制在哪呢


電影的最後
Murrow 下了一個漂亮的注解

I began by saying that our history will be what we make it. 
If we go on as we are, then history will take its revenge, and retribution will not limp in catching up with us....

To those who say, 
'People wouldn't look, they wouldn't be interested, they're too complacent, indifferent and insulated.' 
I can only reply: there is, in one reporter's opinion, considerable evidence against that contention
But even if they are right, what have they got to lose? 
Because if they are right, and this instrument is good for nothing but to entertain, amuse and insulate, 
then the tube is flickering now and we will soon see that the whole struggle is lost. 

This instrument can teach. 
It can illuminate and it can even inspire. 
But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it towards those ends. 
Otherwise, it is merely wires and lights in a box.
